Researching Rabbits

Recently my partner Jason & I have been looking into different breeds of rabbits. So many adorable ones to choose from. I really like the Jersey Wooly bunnies/mini Lop's/Netherland Dwarf bunnies are all my favourites. Basically anything small and with a relaxed and curious temperament. If anyone out there has a rabbit---please let me know all about it! Any input will help with our decision.

You have some of your sculptures in the upcoming show "Very Beautiful Things" at The Gladstone Hotel. Can you describe some of the pieces that you have decided to include in the group show, and why those specific sculptures are important to you?

All my pieces are important to me as they allow me to have time alone to think of why I care about the things Creator has given us; from a rich ancestral heritage to a future that can only get better with age as we put our efforts and time into our work and share about the past, present and future.....The sculpture entitled Gathering Our Minds is a "life piece" and it won the First Prize Blue Ribbon from the Prestigious Heard Museum in Scottsdale Arizona.This piece is a teaching tool of my Mohawk Ancestry and I cannot wait to share it with others. Another piece is an abstract carving that people are not used to seeing from me, but the meaning is so very deep, and it will take a good conversation with the viewer to understand the concept and meaning. Its entitled "Universal Healing". Another piece is entitled "Earth & Fire", A magnificent Eagle that has emerged from fire, ash and earth. Also, another piece entitled "Brother's Forever II" which is a mixed media piece of stone, bone, feather and leather. It has a poem that comes with it, explaining the expression on the Warrior's face...just to name a few.

You have been a carver/sculptor for 26 years now, what drew you to this craft? And what keeps you interested in making such a big body of work?

Someone gave me a chunk of stone and what drew me to this work was the excitement of taking nature and manipulating it just enough to allow that piece of art to dictate its own destiny my father encouraged me immensely in my artwork, and so did my mother, being an artist herself. Also Joe Jacobs, a well known carver from Six Nations really was an inspiration to me as well. Its also the challenge of a large piece of stone to see what I can unveil and expose, what is really already there the stone shows me what to uncover and sometimes, I feel as though I'm just a channel and the ancestors just come out and show themselves and their message through me, through the stone. The larger pieces are called my "life" pieces...because it took a substantial amount of my life to finish them. People always ask how long did THAT take you??..I always answer "more than an hour and less than a lifetime"...my father told me to NEVER keep track of the time it takes...it would not be fun if I did it then would become a job, and my art is not a job, it’s my life.

Can you describe your process? Where do you draw inspiration from to start a piece and what is involved technically?

The inspiration to start a piece comes from what or how I may be feeling that day. It puts me in a state of mind to focus on healing and using our First Nations symbols, images and teachings to incorporate teaching and understanding that will give the viewer an insight into us as First Nations, Onkwehonwe people. (The Keepers Of The Earth). The actual stone itself will also be inspiring to me; the colour of it, the grain, and the size of it or where it came from. Technically my tools need to be organized, sharp and ready, and my studio must be clean and ready to receive a new sculpture. I am very careful to wear the appropriate masks and eye protection, and also have my area properly vented and lighted. Smudging the area and the stone with our sacred medicines is also another thing I do before I start anything.

When you are working in the studio, what do you use to stay focused? Do you listen to music? Tell me what keeps you motivated?

Playing my flutes and creating music at the same time gives me what I need to change it up a bit ,or even write new poems for my new book will help to keep it fresh, new and evolving. Listening to music as well, and NOT answering the phone, and shutting out the outside world also helps.I really enjoy working either very late at night, or very early in the morning as there is less energy in the air from anything, accept for nature the peacefulness of the water behind my studio, the heron that lives on our peninsula, the loons, its all there to keep me motivated.

The end results also really keep me motivated, to see what has been uncovered, exposed in the stone, and of course people's comments and what they see, feel and experience when they actually see my sculpture for the first time. -DRM

I'm so pleased to check it out on 11.11.11 and that the art is by three awesome women artists that I love. If you are looking for something to do Friday night, downtown Toronto....Come to this! You wont regret it. Sometimes I actually love this city, and I am really stoked on what people make---feeling really good about things lately.

Autumn Vibes

This weekend is daylight savings, and that means an extra hour of sleep. The downside is---darkness at 5:00pm. When I am biking home after work it just feels wrong when the sun has already disappeared.

One thing I am looking forward to is being productive. I have been working 7 days a week for many months now...and during summertime I didnt get anything done. Other than fun times! So I have big-big-big plans for what I want to accomplish during the fall/winter months. Not as much going out---more making things at home, and having friends over for dinner and getting cozy.

It has been 9 months! So glad to be doing a blog post (finally) about Julie Moon. I remember many, many months ago (actually years--2009) when I first started doing The Artist Profile series, I had asked Julie if she wanted to do one. She is always so busy. Either doing an artist residency abroad, or preparing for the Toronto Outdoor Art Show. I was so happy when she agreed to do this! Julie Moons ceramics are swoon worthy. And she just happens to be a rad lady that I love to hangout with whenever I get a chance. She is way too modest, and extremely talented. Everyone I know is looking forward to her show tomorrow night. If you can't make it down to Narwhal for her opening you can read my little interview with her and take a gander at her new work. Maryanna Hardy

This little Artist Profile is short and sweet. A pretty big difference from the last one....I really like Maryanna's book that just came out. Its full of beautiful illustrations and the more I look at it, the more things I find to love about it. The Toronto launch for the book was just held at 107 Shaw. Maryanna is such a lovely person, and her answers are so honest and real, which I appreciate. I think you all will like her work as much as I do. The Chief

My friend Cody has just opened up a lovely shop in the west end of Toronto. I remember when we first started working together a few years back in a dusty art supply store. She mentioned that she wanted to eventually have her own shop. Well she did it folks! And I couldn't be more proud! It's called The Chief Salvage Co. and its right at Dundas and Dufferin (1493 dundas st w. if you wanna be exact). Cody also started a blog for the shop, you can have peak at the charming insides and get stoked to stop by. The opening night party is happening November 25, so if you live in the west end and like good times you should come and say hi to Cody...one of the best ladies in town.

Nathan Cyprys

This Artist Profile interview was kinda short...You would think after doing about 40 of them that it would be easier by now or that I would be less awkward. Nope. Oh well, maybe after 80 interviews?...haha. I remember seeing Nathan's photos at a little show in OCAD. They really impressed me and stood out. I am glad that he is part of a group show at 111 Bathurst Street called "Present in the Art" where you can watch one of his video pieces. If you cant make it to the show than please go to his site and watch them. They are good. And his blog is something that you all should check out, his writing and photos are something that I cant get enough of. For a blog, its top notch. Also I have been BUSY. Really busy. Workingworkingworking. I love doing the Artist Profiles, but lets face it---I have to have jobs that pay bills. So I have been working 60+hrs a week. So if you see me biking around the city looking like a zombie, now you know why. On a good note, so many great things are happening....Amazing art openings! Crafting with rad ladies, reading none stop. Oh, and I love this weather!!! More to come....

Joe Becker

This profile was a long time coming. Finally we did it. I have wanted to interview Joe for some time now...but then Peggy and him left Toronto and went off to Germany, basically to live the dream. Paint, eat good food, drink good beer, and go to amazing museums. Yup, I am jealous. They are two of the best oil painters I know, and work so hard. Joe has been painting non stop since arriving in his studio space. And I was glad that he took the time to answer my questions. And I love how Joe quoted Oprah! I laughed so hard. Joe is constantly updating his blog with new work, totally worth bookmarking.

It's already August...I cant believe summer is going to be over so soon. Many things have happened, but I feel like I'm settling into a routine slowly---which is good for me. Oh and it was my birthday last week (im not a birthday person what so ever), it was really nice and embarrassing all at the same time. I have really great friends who totally surprised me with a thoughtful gift that I just adore! Okay, back to the Artist Profile. I had approached Alex over a year ago to do the interview(hence the old questions)...and finally it is done-huzzah! It was a nice surprise to have it coincide with the show at Angell Gallery. Which is totally worth going to see, its running till August 21. Beautiful images, and nice answers. Thanks Alex. Oh and hopefully the internet trolls dont bum me out, I dislike how they anonymously pick on the artist (or me).

Recently I have been trying to take photos with film. I have a holga but this Pentax camera from the late 70's-early 80's is something else. The photos I took were basically a test roll, not sure what to expect. What I like about it is that you have more control and 24 images versus 12 0r 16 with a holga. And I want to say thanks to a couple of friends who gave me some tips on where to get the film processed for super cheap. This means I will be taking more photos. And hopefully getting better results as I go. This summer is full of things going on, so sorry for the lack of exciting posts. Expect a new interview that I look forward to posting soon.

TZL & This Ain't the Rosedale Library (R.I.P)

These are photos of the Toronto Zine Library that I took last time I did staffed hours. I'm usually around here on Wednesdays 6-8pm. Speaking of zines....Last night I was at a zine reading in front of the now closed independent bookstore This Ain't the Rosedale Library (R.I.P). The zinesters who read stories were Jeff Miller/Dave Roche(so funny)/Joey Comeau/Liz Worth. It was a nice gathering in the hot sun on the pavement outside the closed bookstore. After everyone read a piece of their work the owner Charlie and his son Jessie said a few words about the store, they didnt seem upset...it was like they were thinking of what they could do next. The store was around for 30 years! and now that it is closed what now?... I dont think they are giving up, just looking for other options. Its hard to be an independent bookstore when people are buying books off amazon. It's just really sad that we lost such a great bookstore, it was part of the Toronto community for so long, its such a bummer that it takes losing something for people to come together like last night.

Happy 84th Birthday Grandma

Yesterday was my grandmothers birthday, so I made the trip out to suburbia. Which was actually a nice break from all the madness that has been going on downtown recently. It seems like suburbia is going through a rough patch. So many abandoned buildings, it also feels like it is outdated...gas prices are so high that it doesnt make sense for people to drive all the way downtown to for a job and then back to suburbia. I wonder what will happen to all those buildings?...One of them is my old grade school right behind my grandparents house. It would make sense to turn it into a community center, but somehow I dont think that will happen. Maybe in the near future I will bring my camera and spend some time exploring all these buildings. For now you will just have to look at personal photos I took yesterday. I really like the second photo, my grandmother is showing me a scar on her hand from a surgery. And the fourth photo of grandfathers legs, with his Clark shoes on. I love their bathroom wallpaper, its floral with metallic silver. Lots and lots of Old Spice---Classic!

I was really nervous interviewing a photographer since I dont really know much about it...Andrew was really nice and Im glad I asked him. Now that I'm back from Chicago/finished the artist residency/and TCAF is over. I am back to doing Artist Profiles! Yeah! I am excited to look and interview others about their art again, its nice to take a break from my own art. Okay back to the good stuff(Winnie's art). I don't know if anybody else out there in internet land checked out the OCAD grad show that just happened?....if you did, then you probably saw some amazing drawings! Winnie's work stood out and basically blew my mind. Seeing them in person is way different then just photos of them online. They don't do them justice, trust me. So I contacted her and she was nice enough to do a little interview. Where you can find out what she has planned for future projects---that way you will be able to she her work in person! She was also sweet enough to send me a couple of studio shots, I am always a sucker for a cat in the studio photo. Best package ever

Wow its been forever since I have posted anything here...but I am still living on island and only have a few more days in the studio(lots to still finish)...but I made a trip to my PO BOX hoping that I would have a sweet income tax return waiting for me. And of course there was nothing from the government, but I finally got this amazing package from Eunice:) who sent it to me forever ago. But it was the hardest thing ever to get, finally NOW sent it to me(after it being "misplaced")!!! And it was worth the trip from the island to the mainland, because it was full of goodies and nice things. I took a few quick photos of some of what was inside. The fortune telling fish was pretty rad, it was also accurate(spooky). So thank you Eunice it was the best! Also I have been taking photos of my stay on the island with my holga and once I get them developed I will post them and all the other things I am up too-promise.

Island life

I know I haven't been posting much new and exciting stuff lately...but I have been busy living on the Island doing a one month residency. Hoping to complete unfinished projects, or just ideas I have wanted to do. It is so quiet here and I feel like I can get work done without the distractions of downtown. And when the weather is nice it feels so good to go explore things on the island. I really dislike having to take the ferry to mainland to get food and art supplies. I wish I never have to set foot off of the island. So far so good...I have some writing/drawing/painting/photos I am hoping to get done. Well see.....30 days will go by so fast. One week is already over! When I am done here on the island I will have so much to post---I promise. So excited!!!!

I'm pretty sure that all of you have seen her work before all over the internet...but I keep going back to them. I am really into embroidered portraits, and she rules them! I have been trying different crafty art forms lately and I have decided to give embroidery a try. I am going to the library and will take out some how-to books and then I will stop by the workroom, and pick up some supplies. I am excited to see if I like it and if I stick to it....who knows what will happen. Oh I need to stop by mokuba, I need some ribbon asap!

This post is pretty special to me...My friend Peggy is one of the nicest ladies I know, and just happens to be a fantastic painter! She currently has a show up at Christopher Cutts gallery in Toronto (near Dundas West). I just got back from Chicago so I missed the opening:( but I am really excited to go see them in the gallery and get a nice look at them without any people in the way or bumping into me. I normally would post more photos here, but I think you check out her blog and see things directly from her---she is pretty funny/honest and I really enjoy reading what she has to say. I was really excited that she agreed to do an interview with me for NOW, and Peggy gave me really great answers that explain her process, and her partner Joe Becker took the studio shots! So I am really pleased with everything. So if you want see some amazing paintings check out Peggys work. She is one of fave painters right now (not just because we are friends), she is just really that good.

Genevieve Jodouin

This is the Questions for Crafters that I mentioned in the earlier post...Its Genevieve Jodouin! I have admired her style of prints for awhile. They are very romantic and domesticated. I love the ones where people are reading books or drinking coffee. Oh, I really like her wooden brooches that she prints on. You should check out her little etsy shop to see more. I also had a really nice time in her studio space at 401 Richmond "open studio" Its so big I kinda got lost after a few turns...haha. Genevieve was nice enough to do a little print demo for me to photograph. She made a rabbit print (which I love). Post Office Love

Yesterday was such a good day! I went to the post office (it had been a few days since the last time I went) and my box was full of awesome things. I love when that happens. First off I want to thank Melinda for the sweetest fox card print ever! They are limited edition and you should grab one while you can. The fox & clovers remind me of spring time, and makes me think of nice things. Secondly, I ordered some vintage library pocket cards and stamps. I am so happy with them. The woman I ordered them from was so nice and sent me a really great hand picked selection. Im not sure what I am going to do with them yet...but it will something special I'm sure. I really enjoy the hand written names on the library cards, you can tell that it is children writing their names in cursive (with pencil), adorable.

I went over to take some photos of Lisa in her winterbeasta warrior piece. I was so excited, like a kid on the ferry for the first time. I felt so at home in that space. Lisa Cristinzo Part One

This profile on Lisa makes me so happy. One of the many reasons why I like it so much is her answers. They make so much sense to me. I think its because we have similar personalities, and interests. I completely get them. Anyways, I just thought I would also mention her paintings have really changed alot. I remember them from a couple of years ago and one thing is, they have become much, much smaller. Also this was the first time for me to see this series finished. It all started in her studio/bedroom which had the most perfect view of the construction for the AGO, back when that was still going on. I think they turned out pretty great. Oh, and Lisa's website is under construction so if you want to see more or need to get in touch, you could contact the gallery she is currently with.

Fantastic Mr. Fox

I have a book on felting, and recently finished this little red fox. Its really tiny, three inches. I have been doing alot of crafting lately, maybe because of the cold weather. Its nice to stay inside and hibernate. To keep my hands busy I have been learning how to crochet ( I am working on a hat) and also felting little animals. So I'm going to give this little fox away to the first person who leaves a comment(that actually wants the little fox)! The Family Game

I went on a trip to Value Village yesterday and found this gem of a board game. It's pretty old, 1971, it was covered in dust. I had to have it. When I got home, I opened it and was happy that the original instructions were still in the box! I wasnt sure what to expect out of this game....Its ridiculous! I took photos of the cards that you are supposed to ask your family members. I would never play this game with anybody in my family. If I did it would not end well. Reading all the Probe/Insight/Good Graces cards gave me a good laugh. Its supposed to bring you closer to your family and open up communication. Hahhaha. If anyone wants to borrow it, or needs a good laugh let me know. I also really enjoyed the awkward family portraits on the box.

Finally something new and exciting! I feel a bit rusty, I haven't been keeping up with doing the profiles every week. I think I let the negative comments get to me way too much. So I was bummed out for a bit, but I'm getting over it. Also having such a flexible schedule gives me too much freedom sometimes. And lately I have been focusing on me, and working on my own stuff (is that selfish?). Meeting Sandi was such a breath of fresh air, she was so great(and her cat was so cute). I love her work, her posters make me happy! Meeting rad lady artists like herself make me want to not be such a slacker anymore. Psychedelic Cupcakes

Nothing cheers me up more than baking some colourful cupcakes:) You cannot be grumpy after biting into one. I made some yesterday and brought them over to a friends house. There is something great about watching people bite into them. And look of shock that appears on there face is priceless. This batch was more on the turquoise/purple scheme. The others that were eaten by my lovely friends, were more fuschia pink/lime green. I recommend making them, so much fun!

Anyways I finally watched it online and it was really inspiring. I have been spending alot of time making things and doing things. I told myself that I want to be surrounded by people who actually do what they say they will, rather then alot of talking about doing something. Oh and I found an amazing chair on the side of the road, I am going to reupholster it with pretty fabric. I will post a before & after photo of it when I am finished.

I was just messing around taking photos of some nice floral sheets that belonged to my mom. She has so many, and she told me that she received all of them as gifts from a linen shower. I did not know there was such a thing. I guess they used to be more practical with engagement/wedding showers many years ago. I just find them to be so beautiful, my mom also gave me a handmade quilt which I will post pictures of soon.

The White House

Finally a new interview, and a new year! This one is a bit different from all the others I have done. It focuses on a studio space, rather than a specific artist. Also its a pretty long read, and has two different people answering questions. I just thought that it was a good time to write something about the White House, since they have just moved to a new location in Kensington Market. The other location, was nice and convenient for me at the time. This one seems more exciting. Its all open space and has big windows to let in alot of natural light. I only know a couple of people who have spaces... but I'm sure everyone is nice. Xenia is one of the founders, and deserves alot of credit, for what she has done. I would not have the patience and organizational skills to do create what she has. Affordable studio space downtown, and basically a little community. So I dont know if my piece does The White House any justice...but atleast its out there and people can go check out there website and see what they are up too.

This profile was exciting for me, because I had the chance to see Carly's process. I was lucky, because she showed me many of the mineral specimen that she paints. I couldn't believe how tiny they were. I would not have the patience that Carly does to paint such detail. Her paintings are so beautiful. And it was very inspiring that she uses water soluble oil paints, and can achieve such great results. Maybe I will give them a chance. And Carly was nice enough to set up her light box and camera/tripod, to show me how she takes her reference photos of the mineral specimens that she uses to paint from. I'm glad she did, because I noticed a big difference. Now I really want to get a nice camera with a good lens. Its December! I cant wait till it snows. I thought I would let you know that I have been volunteering with the TZL for a little while now. For those of you that have never been, or even knew it existed...let me fill you in. Its located in the Tranzac, on the second floor, in a little room. The best part, its full of zines!!! It is not the most glamorous, but its pretty great place to hangout, relax, and read some zines. My fave categories are: perzines/litzines/comics, if you havent read "ghost pine" you should! There are so many reasons to come by the TZL, during staffed hours. One good reason being, to hangout with me...but really, you can borrow zines and take them home with you! all you have to do is come by and sign up for a membership its five bucks. Totally worth it! And if dont feel like forking over the five dollars, feel free to just come on down and browse through everything. Lately during the staffed hours, I bring something crafty to work on, and sometimes I will even bring a snack, and wander downstairs to purchase a lovely beverage from the Tranzac bar. Recently I have been doing staffed hours on Wednesday's 6:00pm-8:00pm regularly. So come by and say "hi" stay a lil while and hangout. And if you make zines, why dont you donate one of yours to be included in TZL. So I thought I would share with all of you the awesomeness that is the TZL, maybe I will your faces there soon...if you cant come by, at least visit the website and blog.

This one took forever to get finished...it was alot of back and forth emailing. We both finally had a day where we could meet up and do this, then I woke up checked my email, and received a frantic message about Brian from his girlfriend. He had his appendix removed urgently. Once again we couldn't meet. I felt sorry for the guy....he recovered and we got it done! It was posted way too late for when his solo show was up at Show&Tell. Bummer. Lately, I have been noticing that the Artist Profiles for the NOW site arent as tight as before...it seems to me that the photos are posted really sloppy and sized weird. I think I will speak to my on-line editor about it. The order of the photos doesnt seem to make sense anymore either...I guess the whole art section is lacking really...it is really sad. The Cult of Done Manifesto

There are three states of being. Not knowing, action and completion.
Accept that everything is a draft. It helps to get it done.
There is no editing stage.
Pretending you know what you’re doing is almost the same as knowing what you are doing, so just accept that you know what you’re doing even if you don’t and do it.
Banish procrastination. If you wait more than a week to get an idea done, abandon it.
The point of being done is not to finish but to get other things done.
Once you’re done you can throw it away.
Laugh at perfection. It’s boring and keeps you from being done.
People without dirty hands are wrong. Doing something makes you right.
Failure counts as done. So do mistakes.
Destruction is a variant of done.
If you have an idea and publish it on the internet, that counts as a ghost of done.

Late last night or early morning, depending on how you look at it(I blame the mice that have been keeping awake to daylight)...I found this, "The Cult of Done Manifesto" I thought it was pretty helpful, with what I am supposed to be working on right now. Numbers 2,5,6,7 & 10 seemed to hit me in face last night. I like deadlines but I always wait till the very last second to start anything. No matter what it may be, or even how prepared I am. I felt like this was something I could identify with and thought I would share it with others in case you are stuck on something. I had such a good time talking with Jan. I have seen her around and never actually talked to her before the interview. I was mostly familiar with her threadless tees...I also was super impressed with her design patterns that have been used by naked & angry. It was so nice to chat about stuff we are both into, like to-do lists or just lists in general, drawing in crappy sketchbooks and not wanting to use the nice ones that we have. Jan was nice enough to let me see all of her old sketchbooks, and I was really into her doodles and all the crazy fonts she was sketching. We both have the ability to write in different styles. Which can be usefull and a curse...also talking about yummy burgers was great too! hopefully that zine she is working on will be out soon. The interview is really fun, and i took some photos for it, but really her work space is kinda like mine. Really simple, clean and sparse. Alot of her work is computer based(not all), so it was some shots of her desk...so just photos of Jan's work was posted(incase you were wondering what happened). This is not so much a studio visit, it is just a straight forward interview. The work is so good I felt it didn't really need anything else, really. It was just posted today on the NOW site, because his opening is tonight! I just took a look at the Narwhal site and it seems all of pieces are already sold!!! Which is completely understandable, considering how well received his first solo was. I was so glad I had a chance to get Stephen to answer some of my questions just a couple days before his show...he was so prompt and polite. I know I write this about everyone I interview, but I did enjoy his answers alot. They seemed so honest and casual but also smart. I think the interview turned out nicely. The opening is tonight at Narwhal, I am not one for attending crowded art gallery openings but this one I will not miss out on, thats for sure.

This is something new I just started doing with TCA. It is similar to the Artist Profiles...but a little bit different. I am excited to be apart of TCA, and was so happy Anneke agreed to be my first victim for the interview. Her subject matter really intrigued me, and how stunning and simple her peices look. I really want one of her axe brooches (hint-hint). We also talked about her NSCAD experience... She is really busy, I could tell by how many different projects she had on the go at her studio. It has been a couple weeks since my previous Artist Profile, again so much is happening right now that I just couldn't get it together in time. I have just moved into a new place, it has taken me a long time to find something. I have so much work ahead of me to make it feel like a home.

This artist profile makes me really happy, because I met Eunice at Zine Dream 2. We both had tables and really liked each others work. I think all the money I earned that day went towards cute things made by her. Totally worth it! I should have bought the adorable screened print pictured above...what was I thinking? It has been really long, since my last Artist Profile. I had been working hard on changing the questions just for this new profile. So that it would focus on Nicholas work for his solo show at Narwhal. I tried to make the questions more serious...not my normal style at all. It seems to have turned out okay. The one thing that made me a little crazy was tiff (Toronto International Film Festival) basically I worked super hard on getting Nicholas profile complete, so that it would be posted in time with his show. Except tiff had top priority, and my piece was pushed way back. Thanks Megan Fox. So I was bummed since it was only posted just a few days before the show is ending. That means you only have a tiny amount of time to run over and check it out.
Also interviewing Nicholas was really fun, I had a good time, we even went on a mini adventure to go get a big box and I enjoyed climbing through the window too. Also Nicholas was working on a little oil study so that was exciting to see, I like it when an artist works in different mediums. Recently my life has been really crazy...Sorry for the late post.
I have been busy this past weekend, with studio work at the Whitehouse, we just had our show "the blind leading the blind" it went really well. Also the next day was Zine Dream 2, and that turned out to be a good day. It was a total visual overload, in a good way. Okay, back to the studio visit featuring Janna Watson. Basically her work is dreamy, and so is she. When I used to work at the old art supply store, she would come in and purchase all my favourite colours. The space in which she works is stunning, perfect light for painting. I really enjoyed actually talking to her, and getting to know a little bit more about the work. And we both agreed that it is hard to talk about your art. Sometimes you just can not explain how it happens, it just is. You start off with some wool, and mold it with little sharp needles
until you like the way it looks.

Here is one of my fave magazines that is out there.
It is really hard to get here in Toronto, I only know of one place on College st. that gets it in every two months. It is worth it. Basically it is full of everything that I love.

Here is a link to the first Artist Profile article. Winston's work is amazing, and he is a really great guy, who is always working on something. He put together Film Fort, which is a giant fort where you can watch films from a diverse group of people, in a cozy environment.
